Rudra, "the wild one" or "the fierce god", is a storm god and embodiment of wildness and unpredictable danger. The Sanskrit word Shiva is an adjective meaning "pure and destroyer" (destroyer of ego). As a proper name it means Lord "The Auspicious One", used as a name (epithet) for Rudra."
